Protecode is an Eclipse plug-in product that automatically detects bits and pieces of software that end up in your project. Protecode plug-in creates a log file on your repository (called the pedigree file) for the project you are working on. The plug-in detects external content as it enters the project (for example through cut & paste, drag & drop, files brought into your workspace, etc), creates a record in the log file, reduces the content you brought in into a number (a signature), and tries to identify what you brought in by accessing our database of open-source and commercial signatures. You can run a report on any file, folder or project at anytime during the development of the project.

No content leaves your organization. All code and encrypted pedigree files stay in your organization. Queries to our database (called Global Intellectual Property Server or GIPS) are encrypted and use secure HTTP. The GIPS can be hosted by Protecode or located within the enterprise.
